A day at Burleigh Hill Pre-school

The pre-school follows a routine during the day, however this is flexible and be changed if circumstances require, or if there is an opportunity for extended learning.

Morning Session

8.40am - 9.10am - Registration, whose arrived?
The children and parents/carers are warmly greeted by the staff.  The children enjoy the independence of  putting their lunchboxes and belongings away before being settled with their peers to enjoy the session. The children self registrate by putting their name and picture card on the ‘Who’s here today’ board. Key persons are there to sensitively support children to settle quickly.

9.10am - 9.30am - Tidy up time/Group time on the carpet
After the bell has been rung, we work together to clear resources away making it a valuable learning experience for team work, helping others, listening and following instructions, and much more. We then sit down for Group Time, singing the 'Hello' song and say good morning to each child individually. A child is chosen to be special helper and helps count how many children are at group time and we talk about what the weather is like that day.

9.30am - 11.10am - Play, explore and learn/Healthy snack time
Children can choose from a range of activities, both inside and outside, that interest them and staff are there to support and extend children’s learning. We use a free-flow and free-play routine as this allows the children the independence to choose with what and where they wish to play. We also have 'rolling snack', where again children are encouraged to be independent, pouring their own drinks and cutting their own fruit. After washing their hands, the children sit down together and tuck into a wide selection of fruits, vegetables and bread snacks. The children are also encouraged to use the toilet during this time and nappies are checked.

11.10am - 11.40am - Tidy up time/Story or Song box time After another quick tidy up time the groups join together on the carpet and settle for a short calming story or a selection of our favourite songs, before preparing to wash hands for lunch. Children that are not staying for the afternoon are collected by their parents.

11.40am - 12.10pm - Together lunch time
Children sit down together to enjoy their healthy food brought from home. We enjoy chatting about the day’s events.

Afternoon Session

12.10pm - 12.30pm - Registration, whose arrived?
The children joining us for the afternoon session arrive and add their name cards to the 'Who's here today' board.

12.30pm - 12.50pm - Tidy up time/Group time on the carpet
The bell rings and after a quick tidy up, we sit on the carpet and welcome the afternoon children to the session. Another 'special helper' is chosen to see how many children there are and talk about if the weather is the same or has changed since the morning.

12.50pm - 2.30pm - Play, explore and learn/Healthy snack time
Children continue their play, inside and outside and the children who arrived for the afternoon session participate in the 'rolling snack' session. Again, children are encouraged to use the toilet during this time and nappies are checked.

2.30pm - 2.55pm - Tidy up time/Story or Song box time
The bell is rang for the last time and after a quick tidy up, the children settle down for their last story or song for the day. The children then collect any lovely pictures they have done from their drawer and put on their coats, ready to go home.
