What is the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework?

This framework sets welfare standards to keep your child safe at our Pre-school and helps us to plan the day to day activities, observing and assessing what and how your child is learning and developing.

At our Pre-school, your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through seven areas of learning.

Children should develop the three prime areas first.  These are:

1. Personal, Social and Emotional Development
2. Physical Development
3. Communication and Language

These prime areas are those most essential for your child's healthy development and future learning.  The prime areas will help to develop skills in four specific areas.  These are:

1. Literacy
2. Mathematics
3. Understanding the World
4. Expressive Arts and Design

All these seven areas are used to plan your child's learning and activities.  The staff supporting your child will make sure the activities are suited to your child's unique needs and individual interests.

Burleigh Hill Pre-school recognises that children learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outdoors.
